About Aloïs Ochsenreiter

The wine farm Haderburg is reputed for its 30.000 bottles of "sekt" produced each year in Salurn (South Tyrol), and which are counted among Italy's finest. Apart from sparkling wines of the mark "Haderburg", Aloïs Ochsenreiter produces Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Blauburgunder (or Pinot Noir) under the name "Hausmannhof". The grapes for these wines grow on the high and steep slopes around the "Hausmannhof" in Buchholz, above Salurn. The secret of these wines are the unique terroir and the quality-driven approach of Ochsenreiter. Furthermore the sekt is made with grapes of own production, which heightens control over the end product.
Recently Ochsenreiter has acquired a supplementary "hof" in the vicinity of Klausen, in the Eisacktal, east of Bozen. There he grows Silvaner and Gewürztraminer, which are typical for this part of South Tyrol.
The wines of the Weingut Haderburg
Chardonnay Hausmannhof

This dry, non-sparkling Chardonnay testifies of the same concentration and minerality as the sparkling wines of the house. A very full and floral nose. The taste is fruity and harmonious. A very professional job! (This wine is no longer available.)

Brut

The "Brut" is a magnificent sparkling wine (80% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Noir) with an intense, very aromatic nose and a perfectly balanced taste. (This wine is no longer available.)

Pas Dosé

The "Pas Dosé" is what the French call a "millésime", a sparkling super wine made of grapes of one certain vintage and to which no "dosage" (sugar or liqueur) is added. This "Pas Dosé" is an assemblage of 90% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir, ripened in bottles for 5 years and extremely mineral in aroma and taste. (This wine is no longer available.)

Blauburgunder Hausmannhof

With the same grapes from which the sparkling wines are produced (Chardonnay and Pinot Nero), Ochsenreiter makes high-quality non-sparkling wines. Cf. this classic and sophisticated "Blauburgunder" (which is the Southtyrolean name for Pinot Noir). Vintage 2008 has a beautiful rubyred colour and a delicious nose of ripe plums with a hint of kirsch. Its taste is nicely "corsé" with a well-balanced acidity and fine tannins which linger for a long time. All the wines of the house, and especially the "Blauburgunders", have the reputation to retain their fruit and power during a very long time.

Blauburgunder Riserva Hausmannhof

Despite two years of ripening on oak barriques, the wood is nicely integrated. Deeply dark. An abundant nose of woodberries and impressions of leather and fumé. The taste is wonderfully concentrated and nicely rounded. It does not make much sense to compare this wine to any Burgundies of the same price category. The Blauburgunders stand on their own, have their own expression and signature. (This wine is no longer available.)
