The wine farm "Mirovino" results from the cooperation between the Slovenian Miro Munda and the Austrian Polz brothers, who are reputed wine makers in the Süd-Steiermark.
The "Ljutomer-Ormoz" appellation is the most appraised Slovenian white wine region. Already in the Middle Ages the crusaders, on their way to Jerusalem, appreciated the local wines, a phenomenon which allegedly gave the village "Jerusalem" its name. By extension the whole region is often called "Jerusalem", very original indeed. Mirovino is located in the village Kog, near to the Croatian border, not far from Hungary either.
As a rule the region produces sweet (dessert) wines. The house style of Mirovino, however, is dry, meaning: really dry. We would describe the wines of the house as very pure, fresh and drinkable. Every grape holds on to its typicity, the typical fruit is elegantly expressed. Especially the Sauvignon Blanc has a very fine expression, emphasizing the fruit rather than the classical (wet) grass.

Cuvées are in Slovenia the rule for white varieties. Slovenians do not hesitate to mix the most heterogeneous of varieties into a single bottle. This cuvée is assembled with Welschriesling, Rheinriesling and Sauvignon Blanc. The combination seems very daring, but the result is more than a success! A very fresh and spicy nose (sage, blossoms, mandarins). The flavour is just as fresh and pure (apple, green berries) ending in a pleasant, long finish. The very recognizable muscat nose almost jumps out of the glass, but in a very discrete and elegant manner. Surprisingly dry flavour, slim, we taste raisins, tropical fruit, oranges and remarkably pleasant acids. Very light without being weak. (This wine is no longer available, 20/09/2007.)

A very pure, juicy Sauvignon nose emphasizing (for once) the fruit & spices (passion fruit, ananas, clove) rather than the wet grass. A flavour of slim fruit, very pure and fresh, ananas, mango, spiced with some cardemon and anise. A beautifully long and pleasant finish. A very concentrated and powerful wine, preferably to be drunk with goulash according to the producer! Is regarded as one of the best Sauvignons in Slovenia. This wine has been ripened on oak barriques. A very dense and juicy nose, complex. A very concentrated and expressive flavour. A very mineral Sauvignon of international class.
